# Testing

> Run unit and UI tests from FlowDeck

Run your tests directly from FlowDeck. Results appear in the Inspector's **Tests** tab, and the agent can trace failures to the source and fix them.

## Running tests

Press **⌘U** or click **Test** in the toolbar to run the full test suite for the selected scheme.

When a test run starts, the Inspector opens automatically on the **Tests** tab so you can watch results as they come in.

### Run a specific test target, class, or method

In the **Tests** tab, expand the tree to find the test you want and click the play button next to it. You can run at any level:

* An entire test target
* A test class
* A single test method

### Filter tests

Use the **Filter** field at the bottom of the Tests tab to find tests by name.

## Test results

Results update live in the Tests tab:

* **Green checkmark** — passed
* **Red X** — failed, with the failure message shown inline
* **Yellow arrow** — skipped
* **Spinner** — currently running

Click any failure to see the full message and jump to the failing line in the source file.

## Test plans

If your scheme has test plans configured, select the plan from the configuration picker in the toolbar before running. FlowDeck picks up the test plan configuration automatically.

The Tests tab groups results by test plan when multiple plans are present.

## Using the agent

The agent is especially useful for test workflows that span multiple steps:

```text theme={null}
Run the LoginTests suite. If anything fails, trace the failure and fix it.
```

```text theme={null}
I just added a PaymentProcessor class. Write unit tests for it and make sure they pass.
```

```text theme={null}
Run the full test suite and give me a summary of what failed and why.
```

```text theme={null}
Run only the tests related to the cart feature.
```

The agent reads test output, understands what failed and why, and can edit production code or test code to fix the problem — then re-run to confirm.

The **Fix All** button in the Tests tab sends all current failures to the agent in one step.

## UI Tests

UI tests run on a simulator. Make sure the correct simulator is selected in the toolbar before running UI tests.

The agent can also drive UI automation directly (outside of XCTest) — see [UI Automation](/macos/ui-automation) for that workflow.

## Troubleshooting

### Tests won't start

Make sure a compatible simulator is selected and booted. Check the Console (⌘⇧Y) for any launch errors.

### Tests pass locally but fail on retry

Check for shared mutable state between tests. Tests should be isolated — each test should set up its own state and not depend on execution order.

### Test not appearing in the Tests tab

Ensure the test file is added to the correct test target in your Xcode project. FlowDeck discovers tests from the scheme's test targets.
